My interest in film has been with me forever but my music career started as a chorister, then head chorister at Liverpool Cathedral. My further music studies took me to Liverpool University and Trinity College of Music where I gained an Honours Degree in Music and a Performing Diploma. After graduation, I taught music in independent schools across the south-east of England and Switzerland, directing the music in three of those schools.
My composition work for television started in 1999. In 2004 I was commissioned to write the score for the TV series ‘British Isles: A Natural History’ (8 x 60’ BBC1), presented by Alan Titchmarsh and this was nominated for a BAFTA award. My more recent compositions from my Berkshire studio have included the score for World’s Greatest Shipwrecks (10 x 50′ NatGeo) and the Countryfile Special ‘Queen and Country’ (3 x 60′ BBC1). In addition to commissioned work, my online MCPS Music Production Library is in constant use by the BBC and a large number of independent film companies in the UK and overseas. The library is digitally registered with Soundmouse – the UK’s leading broadcast reporting provider.
I continue to enjoy inspiring the next generation of musicians, teaching pupils of varying ages across keyboard studies, mixing, performing and the art of composition.
My advice for up and coming musicians: we are all only limited by our imagination!
